Cataract Implants

Some of the most exciting advances in cataract surgery have come with the design of newer lens implants.  The modern implant can be folded and injected into the eye through an incision of less than 3 millimeters.  This allows the use of small incision techniques that contribute to rapid wound healing.  In many situations, advanced technology multi-focal implants may be used to allow a patient to see both near and far without the need for glasses.  Implants that correct for astigmatism are also available for our patients with higher levels of astigmatism at the time of cataract surgery.

The AcrySof IQ ReSTOR®  intraocular lens implant is an advanced technology implant, now available for many cataract patients, including those with Medicare.  This lens is designed to reduce a patient’s dependency on spectacles or glasses.  It provides an exciting opportunity for our patients to minimize or eliminate reading glasses or bifocals, and at the same time, provide excellent distance vision without glasses.

The AcrySof IQ Toric®  lens is for patients with all levels of astigmatism.  Astigmatism is an irregularity of the cornea in which the normally round cornea is more elliptical, or football-shaped.  This can produce distortion of your vision.

The goal of these lenses is to give our patients the best possible unaided vision after their cataract surgery.  Please ask your doctor or a member of our staff for more details and to see if you are a candidate for these advanced technology implants.
